My name is Melissa Young. I am 20 years old and interested in working full time in reception. I was previously working at Pizza Hut Butler as a Shift Manager for the last 3 years but have been seeking a change. I have an eagerness to be taught new skills and I am a fast learner. I am also about to undertake stud of a Double Certificate III in Business Administration/Business Administration (Medical).
Although these job positions are quite different, I believe the most important skills I have that I can take into reception work is being inviting and friendly to customers/clients, having excellent phone manner, being organised and achieving what needs to be done and making the workplace a joyful one- all of which I learnt in my previous job role.
Being a manger required me to take responsibility for what happened on my shift; often I was put in the front line having to handle all customer inquiries, complaints and issues they had. Because of that I understand the importance of customers to a business, that they should receive the absolute finest service whether that is in person or over the phone, always having a ‘smile’ in your voice.
Working in one of the busiest Pizza Hut stores in Australia has taught me how to multitask, assess a situation and prioritise what needs to be done, all helping towards the refinement and ability of my time management skills. It has also given me the capability to always work with urgency, in a team or independently and cope in a busy environment no matter the circumstances.
I like to be an organised individual and be on top of my work at all times. I have the basic skills in the Microsoft applications and email and I am confident to do something once I have been shown.
I have certainly learnt a lot over the last three years, and I believe many of the skills I have can be transferred over into this reception position.
