I am currently doing a Bachelor of Arts, majoring in Psychology and Criminology,
at the University of Melbourne. Along side my studies; I also do casual work as an
ABA therapist (Applied Behavioural Analysis) 4 hours a week with an autistic
boy. I strongly believe that acquiring new skills whilst studying is highly
important as it maximizes one’s potential as well as enriches one’s experiences.
This is exactly what I am striving for as a student.
Before leaving my homeland to start my tertiary studies in Australia, I worked in
an international insurance company. The job required immediate medical
assistance to our customers abroad, which therefore meant liaising with various
international hubs, international hospitals and clinics, local and international
airports, various insurance companies across the world as well as liaising with
other departments such as medical, claims, etc. It also involved providing
information regarding customers’ or potential customers’ enquiries. Multitasking
was a major part of the work as we had to deal with various cases and
upcoming cases per day whilst meet aggressive targets. This required teamwork,
meticulousness, reliability and capability to remain productive under stressful
events. I believe that this would be an advantageous background for job positions.
I particularly value well-organised businesses where everything flows effectively.
In my previous placement, I was appointed best performing staff during the 3
months period I worked there based on the cases’ outcomes and the targets
reached per day, and week. Also, I have been in close contact with customers
before, either over the phone or in person, as a trainee receptionist and
administration assistant. More importantly, being fluent in three languages has
proved to be advantageous.
