I am a permanent resident of Australia. I have arrived in Australia from Papua New Guinea where I worked as Financial Controller for a large Hardware retailer/building manufacturer in Papua New Guinea.
I am a member of some of the prestigious accounting institutions and hold qualifications ACMA (United Kingdom), CGMA, CPA (Australia), ACMA (Sri Lanka), LICA (SL) & BSc (Honors) in Accounting and Financial Management.
Besides academic and professional qualifications, I count over 17 years of industry experience of which around nine years in senior finance positions and more than seven years of overseas postings in Indonesia, Republic of Seychelles & most recently in Papua New Guinea as well. Some of the industries I have worked include, plantations, retail, Automotive, Manufacturing, ICT/Media, services and Trading The main areas of responsibility comprise, Treasury and Cash Flow forecasting, Financial and Management Reporting, Budgeting and Corporate Planning, Procurement, handling Internal and External Audits, Credit Control, Taxation, Secretarial, General Administration, Risk Management, Project Evaluation, IT and system developments (working experience of Pronto, Myob, Hyperion, JD Edwards, Mapics, Accpac) and new company formation/acquisition/integration/due diligence.
In my last assignment I worked for a company named Hardware Haus Ltd which is one the largest hardware retailers in Papua New Guinea having 11 branches across the country. And it has a manufacturing arm to manufacture buildings using steel & timber materials as well. As Financial Controller, I directly reported to the CEO & liaised with the board of directors on secretarial matters as the Company Secretary. My former CEO was an Australian & the Chairman was a New Zealander. The board consisted of eminent personalities from Fiji, New Zealand, India & Sri Lanka. And I was directly supervising over 20 staff.
I do have a strong record of significant accomplishments in my last employment & this includes amongst the other things, significantly improving working capital position (improving debtors collection by at least 50%), review product pricing, GP Margins & recommendations, review contracts & tenders for construction business, system improvements in order to strengthen the internal controls, strict cost (expenses) & budgetary controls, negotiating the best rates with the banks & best terms with the suppliers, in time submission of monthly financials, budgets & forecasts, meeting very strict audit deadlines & no adverse comments by the external auditors in their management report. Further, I can provide with a strong reference from my Chairman (ACA -NZ) who is in Cairns in this regard.
With my experience in four different countries & the exposure to different facets of businesses, I am confident that your esteemed organization would be happy to hire a professional of my caliber. Besides, my experience would be valuable to your organization in many other areas of the business as well.
I do also have a good understanding of the Australian Tax system, Accounting standards, Australian labour laws & the corporations act.
