    • Aug 2011 - Dec 2012
In my role as a volunteer in the international section at the Duang Prateep Foundation in Bangkok, I was required to edit reports written in rudimentry thai/english and edit letters and emails in english; translate letters and emails; transcribe emails and letters; greet and talk with guests; process data; prepare and distribute flood relief packages; and meet and talk with leaders and residents in communities affected by flooding. At the SJ Company Foundation I taught basic english to Thai women with limited english ability; created english lessons via PowerPoint; organised and conducted research for a slum tour which was part of a wider social development project; met, greeted, informed and answered questions from toursists; and assisted a tour through a slum community. This was demanding communications work which I really enjoyed. I learnt the importance of and the mechanics of language, how to define and explain meaning in a clear and direct way, occasionally adjusting my language to communicate more effectively, greet and talk with people from many other cultures in English and in the basics of other languages. I also learnt basic thai to enable me to engage with and to establish a rapport with colleagues and the wider public.
