Engineering Technical Officer job availability

    Our client based near the Perth CBD are currently seeking an Engineering Technical Officer to join their team for a short-term contract. Full time opportunities may be on offer for the right candidate.

    Key Accountabilities:

    • Provide engineering technical advice to Development and Design, ensuring that all civil design elements for development applications and approvals are of the highest standard
    • Represent Engineering in meetings with developers and consultants
    • Evaluate development, strata title, building licence applications and subdivision proposals to ensure compliance with City's engineering requirements and apply appropriate development conditions
    • Undertake site inspections when required to assess compliance with the engineering requirements
    • Review and revise standard engineering conditions to be applied to development applications, in consultation with the Manager Development and Design and the Manager Asset and Engineering
    • Attend State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) direction hearings and Development Assessment Panel (DAP) in respect of Engineering Development Approval Conditions when required.
    • Provide consultancy and advisory services to other service areas
    • Prepare Council reports and technical reports for management as directed
    • Develop and update Engineering policies, procedures, guidelines and brochures relating to Development applications and approvals
    • Prepare and review plans in accordance with recognised standards
    • Manage information relevant to development applications, inspections and bonds
    • Provide direction and advice to Development Services, Technical Officers and other employees as required


    • Diploma level in Civil Engineering, or similar, or demonstrated experience in a similar position
    • "C" class driver's licence
    • Demonstrated understanding of design, construction and maintenance of civil works
    • Demonstrated experience in engineering assessment of Development Applications
    • Ability to coordinate and provide high quality customer service
    • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and within a team environment
    • Local government experience is desirable
    • Highly developed negotiation, decision making and analytical skills
    • Sound knowledge and interpretation of relevant legislation, standards and codes
    • Highly developed customer service liaison skills
    • Sound time management, planning and coordinating skills
