    Bendigo Student Association Inc is a progressive student organisation that is operated on behalf of the students at La Trobe University’s Bendigo Campus. Services provided are diverse, ranging from special student-oriented information, comprehensive social, recreation and development programs and opportunities; student representation and a number of retail operations, including Sweeney’s Café and BSA Stockroom (Stationery supplies).

    Reporting directly to the CEO, the Advocacy Engagement Officer will assist in the successful delivery of advocacy support on behalf of the BSA. The position is integral to innovative student engagement through the delivery of a wide range of confidential support and well-being services.

    Key responsibilities of this role include the following:

    • Assisting students whom are experiencing academic difficulties including the writing of appeals, applications and attendance at all meetings with students and the University as the independent student advocate.
    • Job share with the Clubs Engagement Officer and undertake duties and responsibilities as agreed.
    • Consulting with graphic design consultants to prepare easy to understand, succinct and relevant resources on advocacy services.
    • Represent the BSA at the request of the CEO on various University committees that oversee changes to policy and procedures that may impact on students and student rights and entitlements.
    • Maintain all student records and enter data into a Content Management System (CMS)
    • Establish strong relationships with staff, Board of Directors, students and other stakeholders.
    • Other associated duties as determined by the CEO

    We are seeking someone with a tertiary degree and/or higher education qualification in Education, Social Work, Human Resources and/or Counselling, or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.

    If you have strong written and verbal communication skills, demonstrated superior organisational and time management skills and the ability to exercise judgement, this may be the perfect position for you.

    Desirable skills and attributes include previous experience in a similar role within the Education sector and a caring, empathetic nature with good analytical and negotiation skills. An understanding of the University structures and environment is also preferred.
