Thinking of becoming a teacher?

NSW Education Minister Adrian Piccoli is proposing wide ranging reforms to the teaching profession. The move will cut some 800 to 1000 teaching positions from Australian universities. It will do this by lifting entry requirements to require at least three subjects with scores over 80. Graduates are also being targeted with proposed 'aptitude for teaching' assessments to determine whether new teachers stay certified. In the face of Australia's falling literacy and numeracy standards internationally the proposed changes are being welcomed by the industry. For more info check out:
